New Year’s Day

Christmas is packed back into the old cedar trunk,
presents are finding places in the house and shop.
Looking forward instead of back
I pray the joy of the season will not stop.

May peace be the goal we walk towards
in our homes and in our land.
May love be our motive
and justice the ideal for which we stand.
