Cedar In The Snow

This is the woods,
evolving as are we.
Spaces
where trees have fallen,
some dead,
but still standing
food and perches
for those who need them.

Snow has replenished the dryness
of roots.
Flattened ferns
dream of spreading their fronds
in the sun again.

We live in harmony
the trees and me,
none owns the other
but protect and care for
as all well-managed relationships do.

For now,
together we wait -
for sun, for spring,
for life to awaken once more
and thrive,
in gratitude
for solitude and beauty
we wait.
