In The Woods On A Winter Day

The woods –
evolving
as are we.

Spaces
where some have fallen,
some die,
but still stand
as food and perches
for those who need them.

Snow has replenished the dryness
of roots.
Flattened ferns
dream of spreading their fronds
in the sun again.

We live in harmony
the trees and me,
none owns the other
but protects and cares for
as all well-managed relationships do.

For now,
together we wait –
for sun, for spring,
for life to awaken once more
and thrive.

We wait
in gratitude
for solitude and beauty.
