I read it more as having hope for tomorrow, faith in the future, not despair but a promise to keep living and believing in despite not seeing it now. Not the “I can’t wait for tomorrow sort of thinking” but rather looking ahead with anticipation and faith.

And yet enlightened beings all say be here and be now. That this moment is all we ever really have. We think of tomorrow for planning purposes only – like a trip or an errand but this moment is where we live. Otherwise we are in our heads. I have spent too much time agonizing or being anxious about tomorrow or regretting the past. I do try, as much as I can, to be in the now. Not very good at it yet but will continue to keep practicing. It is a peaceful place to reside.
