What The Statistics Mean

More sick,
more deaths,
more grief,
more pain.

But to many who read them
it means relief,
comfort,
thankfulness
because we are not counted among them –
yet.

I wonder why taking precautions
is so difficult for some people,
as though something is being taken away
rather than life being protected.

A strange phenomenon
to think that rules that save lives
are somehow constrictive
and unnecessary.

It’s like driving on the wrong side of the freeway
because you think you have the right to
in spite of laws and signs
to the contrary.

Please!
Think clearly,
follow the signs
and be safe.
