Not Here

Seaview Cemetery Gibsons BC

I do like quietness
and beauty
but this cemetery
with Highway One
and Lower Road
whizzing past
is not very quiet.

I’d rather be sprinkled
under a fruit tree
on our own land
then try to rest here.

Hopefully
what remains of me
will be tangible;
real beauty we planted,
quietness we fought for,
space we tended with loving care

Not just words in stone
but examples of what can grow
out of dreams,
what can last after death
and what is important
even after we’re gone.
