Fall Has Fallen

A few tomatoes still ripen
in the greenhouse.
Peas and beans flower again,
trying to make up for not producing
during the weeks of drought.
The garden isn’t ready to go to sleep just yet.
The earth is a mosaic of golden brown
that complains when walked on.
Sea planes take off to other places
and life in the woods seems in slow motion.
