When we believe our life is our own, we feel entitled to do what we please so that we get what we want. We believe that we are owed something just by virtue of our existence, giving us the inherent right to expect more. But wanting more and getting more becomes an endless unfulfilling cycle – our appreciation diminishes and our hunger increases. The range of experiences that we are willing to accept may also narrow, judging opportunities as inadequate and seeing adversity as unwarranted punishment.
