A New Year Waits To Be Written

A new year, like a new journal,
begs to be filled with all there is to say.
It’s OK to not fill up every page,
every minute, every gap in conversation
and it’s fine to start a new year
and a new book,
even though all the hopes and aspirations of the past one
never were fulfilled.

Time to close last year’s diary,
put it away where what was never written
will somehow fill up the blanks
between what was.

Open a new, clean, untouched book of days.
Go ahead – leap into the new year
as if you’ve planned for it –
as if it’s pages need
what you have to write.
