West Coast Beauty

I sit in a tiny cabin, in the middle of the forest
and imagine I am where Emily Carr has been –
I see her brush strokes, shadows on cedar bark,
sunlight filtered through moss hanging overhead.
I smell rain and know West Coast beauty can only be experienced,
never captured completely though we continue to try
with our brushes and our words.
