Farewell Our Fine Feathered Friends

Kate and Anna have gone to the big chicken coop in the sky after being taken out for dinner by a bobcat.  Sorry to see them go. They were good layers and debugged the whole orchard.

Thank you. They weren’t laying a lot, retired but we still miss them. We do have four newer hens though which we’ll keep in the more secure enclosure now that Bobcat has figured out they are food.

It’s the wild way but hard to accept at times. We have our four hens in a completely enclosed coop and yard with electric fencing around the whole thing. Seems the only way to keep them safe in the woods.

There may have been two bobcats. When hisnibs got out there one had Anna in it’s mouth and Kate was already gone. We had hoped she was hiding somewhere but no sign of her anywhere and lots of her feathers around. Must have been the bobcats Thanksgiving dinner.

So sad! That bobcat must have been hungry but what a terrifying ending for those lovely hens. Layers of love to them and to you folks!

We are sad, they were faithful egg layers and good gardeners. Always happy to see us. We’ll miss them. They had a good retirement in the orchard though and we have our four new hens for eggs, so life on the farm goes on.

  8. Such a bummer. I just watched a hawk fly away with one of our 3 month old chicks…
