We still have flies, mosquitoes and ants,
invasive species of unwanted plants,
though chemicals fail to eradicate
we’re closer to your predicted fate.
Fifty years after you wrote of your fear
DDT’s gone but Monsanto’s still here.
Now we have Round Up, it’s safe too they say,
though there’s much more cancer around today.
We know you were right and you did your best
the truth of the matter has been your bequest.
Today when I heard a robin sing
I thanked you that this is not a Silent Spring.
