An Ode and Thanks To Farmers

Farmers know where food comes from,
not from shelves in grocery stores,
nor from behind warehouse doors,
not from bottles, cans or bags,
with fancy coloured sale-price tags.

Farmers know what real food is
not plastic coated, perfect stuff,
tasteless, sugar-coated fluff,
not dyed, suffused with medicine
forever lasting in a bin.

Farmers grow what feeds the soul,
fruit and veggies full of health
grown to nourish not for wealth
back-breaking work-outs every day
with little thanks and little pay

So hats off to the farmers,
may many join their ranks
and all of us give thanks
that in our midst someone still knows
where good health grows.
