Shack Island separates Pipers Lagoon from Neck Point near Nanaimo, BC, Canada.
The Pacific Whaling Company built a whaling station on Shack Island in 1907. Whaling declined in the area and the station disappeared. Cabins were rebuilt in the 1930’s and some still stand today, owned by descendants of the early whalers.
