Flew The Coop

Our dear Barred Rock hen has flown the coop.  She was four years old and no longer laying but was such a lovely presence around our homestead we kept her on as a pet.  Hisnibs would let her out each morning to cluck her way around the yard savoring bugs and worms and stretch out in the sunshine.  I’d swear she said Thank you when we gave her scraps of bread or vegetables.  We’ll miss her.  Rest in peace dear Beulah hen.

We have two new hens now, a Rhode Island Red/Sumatra Blue mix and a Sumatran Blue/Rhode Island Red. Two very different birds from Beulah but they are learning to enjoy their life in our coop.

Sorry to hear you lost your BR this year. We have a trio of sassy BR’s and they are the life of the farm. If there’s trouble brewing, those three are always right smack dab in the middle of it. ~Chicken Momma

Ahhh, dear Beulah. She will be missed. Yes, she communicated with us – as any animal, given the love and trust neede to feel safe, will. I loved my morning conversations with her. RIP
