Though I often wish for family traditions to fall back on
I’m glad we haven’t many.
Tradition bends one to doing, being and performing
without the need for thought or questions.
It’s time we questioned what we do
and why we do it.
Feasting, candy canes, Santa Claus
going into debt.
What do these have to do with a saviour being born?
And what does the birth of this saviour
have to do with me?
If he is my saviour,
then the celebration of his birth
would at least reflect the kind of person he was.
He was born poor,
in a lonely place,
Did they even have food?
