We walked our trails today,
the shorter, lower trails,
closer to where the neighbours
are logging.
We had to calm our trees,
reassure them
that no one will be coming close to them
with their murderous weapons.
We stood,
quaking with them,
as their neighbours fell
with earth-shaking
thunk.
Too bad printed paper money
is worth more
than living, breathing, growing, working trees.
I’ll never understand that type of economy.
