Silly Putty

Facing up to who I am now
means facing up to who I was
and how I have changed.
Looking at old pictures is hard
and a little painful.

Hard to see
the young woman I thought I was
and realize that she was not me at all.
Painful to see how hard I tried
to fit into the mould of
obedient daughter,
role model,
big sister,
happy housewife,
good mother.

I was like silly putty –
shape me anyway you want
and I would still bounce.
I had no form of my own
no core
no conviction
of who I truly was.

Look at you now! You are beautiful and fearfully and wonderfully made!
