I must take this soul of mine
into my own hands
and decide just what
can be done with it.
Too long have I submersed it
in another,
hoping to please,
be approved,
loved.
Too often has that love
been won
by the bending of my self
into grotesque
and
unidentifiable shapes.
I need only God’s approval
of me,
none other.
My soul belongs to God.
None other.
