What Is Contentment

Contentment is sitting in the house you helped build
under the skylight your brother-in-law gave you
with sun warming your feet,
squirrels in the bird feeders,
cat purring on the foot of the bed,
scent of freshly mowed grass,
clean white linens blowing dry on the clothesline,
beans growing in the garden you helped dig,
fish in the pond you helped make,
food you canned in the pantry,
money in the bank,
daughters who are content with their lives
happy grand kids,
an elderly mother in good health, safe and happy where she is,
a sister who keeps in touch
and a good man right beside you every step of the way –
that is contentment,
blessed contentment.
